Mary Travers, RIP…
Odd as it may seem now, I was a Peter, Paul and Mary fan once. I listened to their live 1964 double album over and over. Neo-neocon has a nice tribute here. Nice one at Big Hollywood, too.
The PPM songs that I remember playing most were “Blue”….both versions (this is a very funny clip)….and “500 Miles.” Interestingly, the latter song re-entered my playlist in the late ’80s, when one of my favorite local bands, The Hooters, recorded it on their Zig-Zag album, and got Peter, Paul and Mary to come to Philly to do the backing vocals. Very, very cool (and kids….THAT is what a stratocaster is supposed to sound like). I remember that at least one of them had gotten lost after arriving in Philadelphia that day, but managed to find the studio in time to do the track. Mary comes in right at 2:00 on the track.
RIP, Mary, I think Cate Blanchett should play you in the movie.
