Stay out late, get up late. Woke up this morning way behind in several areas, including blogging. Anyway, the show last night was great fun. Southside Johnny may be an acquired Jersey taste, but you’re not going to find a better white R&B singer anywhere. High point for me: his rendition of The Left Banke’s 60′s hit “Walk Away Renee. Original here. Johnny’s old studio version here.
And just for fun, here’s Alice Cooper doing the other Left Banke hit, “Pretty Ballerina.”
How many words do you need to do full justice describing a night with the JUKES?????
I’m all into aquired tastes!
FUNtastic review!
Thanks for the compliment. It really was a great show, in a great small-medium sized venue, an old Masonic Temple called “The Scottish Rite” in Collingswood NJ. They played for about 1-3/4 hours, and covered all the old hits. He still had two or three guys from the old Miami Horns, who he said were leaving after the show to go west to do Leno with Labamba and the Mambo-men. The bassist and keyboard looked young enough to be his kids, but played great and looked like they were having a ball. Guitarist was a slick player with a cowboy hat who hailed from Pittsburgh. Last time I saw the Jukes live, Miami Steve vanZant was still on guitar, before he changed into “Lil’ Steven and joined the E Street Band.”
Thanks for the link to your site. I had no idea there were so many Jukes fans in Europe.
God Bless the Jukes- they “put out” for every show and always take care of their audience.
