Arlen Specter bows before the Bitter Clingers of Pennsylvania….

“Swine Flew” via TOTUS ; Rooster Cogburn via Big Hollywood …I want me one o’ them little carbines.
Yes, the biggest chicken-shit punk-ass bully in the U.S. Senate shows his true colors when called to take a stand…..he’s really a Democrat after all. Surprise, surprise, surprise. Pat Toomey would have kicked his scrawny yellow ass in the Republican primary (damn near did it last time), and ol’ “Snarlin Arlen” had to run for the protections of his true homeys, this time. Good riddance. Now…..get the rest of your family out of Southeastern GOP politics as well. You’re nothing but a fifth column, never have been anything else.
John Romano agrees, albeit more politely. Nice picture, too. Suggested caption: “HaHaHa can you believe the dummies fell for it for 29 years? What are they, all Polish?”

Related:Â I liked Power Line’s take on the Specter spetacle:
Specter forgets that the Republican establishment has bent over backward to accommodate his own centrism. President Bush and conservative party establishment supported him Specter in his 2004 fight with a genuine conservative (Pat Toomey, the same one running this time) and, after his re-election, he was allowed to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee notwithstanding his sometimes spotty record on Republican nominees. If Specter wants to abandon the Republican so he can serve another term, so be it. But he should spare us the lecture.
UPDATE: Note too that Specter himself said it was his vote against the stimulus package that sealed his doom as a Republican office seeker. But no Republican party — not the one Specter joined in 1965 and not any since — would have swallowed that vote.
So Specter’s problem isn’t so much that the Republican party has turned hard right; it’s more that the Democratic party is hard left and Specter doesn’t find this problematic.
And Beldar reminds that it was the addled mind of Specter that brought us the legal concept of the Super-Duper Precedent.
