What Would Sarah Palin Do? (With Monday Morning Quarterbacking Update)…The creation of the female Rush Limbaugh….

There was a very funny web site that came out when Sarah first burst on the scene, by that name, and it was quite clever. However, I now think that the subject is worthy of serious discussion, and I wanted to get this little place-holder out there now, since I don’t have time to discuss it right now, but want to later. Very much.
This is still a holiday weekend, so I am still busy with important stuff, like my family. But….you want to know what this is all about? I think we are about to see Citizen Palin launch an all-out assault on the scum of the Earth. Yes, I’m talking about the so-called Main-Stream-Media. More on my theory later. But I have to say, I just started feeling a whole lot better. If we can destroy our modern day versions of Goebbels and Pravda, we might have a chance. Doing that might require transferring charisma to action in a way that politicos usually don’t. Are you with me here? I think that’s what’s going on. If we can’t take on David Letterman and Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson and all the other faux journalists/commentators, how can we defeat the Obama/Pelosi hegemon?
That’s why they hate her so much. There are others like her out here. We don’t have too many more election cycles to use this momentum, but it’s building, and you should keep an eye out for much more of it.
I’m going to update this post later.
UPDATE: OK, here goes, time for me to articulate a crackpot theory before all the good ones get taken. Here’s the deal, as I see it:
I think Palin is thoroughly pissed. She knows that the MSM will never stop with the drive-by gangster tactics, the mean-girl playground tactics (Dowd, Matthews, Purdum, et al.), and that trying to fight by the Marquis of Queensbury rules that limit the abilities of principled politicians trying to defend against the horde is a futile prospect that could bankrupt her family, both literally and emotionally. Remember, no rules in a knife fight. The Dems understand that, the Republicans—not so much.
It has become cliché to note that what Sarah Palin has “can’t be taught.” I think that’s exactly right. And it’s not best-utilized, in the current environment, in the electoral political arena. You just watch. The Mean-Girls of the Lefty press have just created the female Rush Limbaugh, and she is going to come at them just like Rush does. And you thought the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man was scary.
The Anchoress has a poll! And a lot of commentary.

I’m with you driver! I’m in a better frame of mind today as well. Imagining the Democratic gnashing of teeth at the lost opportunity to bleed her resources and credibility for the next 18 months has cheered me mightily. I imagine the conversation in the Palin household went something like this…”Kids, I can’t fight back while I’m Governor. Do you want me to be Governor… or do you want me to fight?”
God love that fightin’ Palin family. Democracy may have a chance after all.

Love the video of Butch and Sundance, driver.
Not sure I’m with you on the motivations of Sarah P, however. Butch didn’t quit – just effected a rules change…and he was witty…and he won.

Butch won a small battle for control within his own diminished party—The Hole in the Wall Gang. If you are as shrewd a student of history and pop culture as I think you are, my friend, you will recall that Butch and Sundance were pursued to the ends of the earth by a relentless posse which, once unleashed, would accept nothing less than their extermination. Butch won the fight for his feckless party’s soul, but he lost the war that counted. Am I right?
There’s a reason that Palin quoted MacArthur: “We’re not retreating, we’re attacking in a different direction.” Nobody (least of all the Japanese) expected him to come back, either.
Unfortunately, MacArthur’s brave words also bring to mind the legendary last words of US Army Special Forces Sgt. Jerry Shriver in Cambodia, April 1969 as his team was being overrun by NVA regulars: “I’ve got them right where I want them, surrounded from the inside.”

In my flat world, every individual finds their comfort zone on a land bridge that stretches between “amazing tragic hero” and “Dr. Smith” from Lost in Space. Butch is nearest the tragic hero and the good guy pretty much always dies in the end it’s just a matter of getting it done or not; Achilles is another example of the same dead-end guy –think of Virgil, noble but kept out of Dante’s heaven on a technicality. Time will tell which part of the territory Sarah Palin claims and the ability of her party to accommodate or even keep up with her.
I expect many in the party are short selling their stock in Sarah, right about now. She will need more than then a very well cultivated image and a sweet spot in the heart of the base to win them over while stepping off into the wilderness. From there, I would think her role would be more that of John the Baptist then the Chosen One herself.
Vox Clamantis in Deserto, says I, with a shout-out to Dartmouth.
Otoh, you clearly know more than I ever will about politics and probably pop-culture too. If I had to bet, I’d only bet against you if you were giving up points.

“I would think her role would be more that of John the Baptist then the Chosen One herself.”
Well yes, that was my point. Not unlike Rush. I think we’re ready for an assistant Rush, leading to a succession….he’s not going to be there forever.

When her lawyer came out on Saturday threatening the media and “bloggers” who have printed untrue statements about possible indictments, I got to thinking the same thing. They’d better have their SOURCES straight – and be cleaning out their websites. Thank goodness for those who capture pages – I would hope to see them get theirs – especially the ones who have been going after her children. You go, Sarah!!
6 July 2009, 2:40 pmdriver:
Pat, yep, I was thinking the same.

There is going to be a very special place in hell for the people who have shamelessly attacked the Palin children.

driver, just got home and showed the knife fight to my kid –he swiped it and embedded it on his Face Book page and now I’ve got to rent the movie. As it is, I first saw it at about his age.
It doesn’t get old…just more relevant.
As to the rest, I really hope Sarah becomes uninterested in being POTUS and just starts kicking ass and taking names across the country. She could get a whole lot of people elected in the next two cycles if she casts off the expectations of well wishers and sycophants and just does what she does best: fight and win. No rules.
